Welcome to McBids Auctioneers & Appraisers Inc., a team of seasoned auctioneers and appraisers with decades of combined experience and a shared passion for the auction world. Although our name is new, our roots run deep. For more than 40 years, the names and faces within our ownership group have been woven into the fabric of the auction and appraisal industry across Saskatchewan and beyond. And yes - we still carry the same pep in our step that we had on day one.

At the heart of our story is our fearless leader and longtime confidant, Loren McDougall, a true legend in the auction industry. Loren originally founded McDougall Auctioneers Ltd. alongside his wife, Sheila, growing it from a small local operation into a well-known provincial leader. He began humbly, a young man on the stand with a mic in hand, selling lot by lot, gaining experience and respect with every sale. His first auction in Langbank, Saskatchewan sparked what would become a generational livelihood. Over the decades, Loren pioneered new industry practices, embraced online bidding long before it became mainstream, and adapted to countless changes along the way. In later years, he brought his family alongside him to auction setups, sales, and warehouse late-nighters, teaching the next generation the art of sales, lotting, customer service, and business. His legacy is more than a career; it runs in the blood. After selling his shares in 2020, Loren eventually joined us at McBids as a partner, where we proudly welcome his experience and can’t wait to continue watching him do what he does best - auction.

Our co-founder and resident ruffle-smoother, Terry McDougall, also carries decades of auction experience. Terry and his wife, Peta, were long-time shareholders in McDougall Auctioneers Ltd., contributing leadership, dedication, and an immeasurable amount of hard work. Terry’s own auction career was built from the ground up (quite literally), sorting through pallets, building lots, and absorbing every detail of the industry. His daughter grew up working alongside him, learning the business as naturally as breathing. After selling his shares and finishing out a work contract, Terry branched out independently, launching TM Appraisals & Auctions; an online auction company that quickly gained recognition under his familiar leadership. After running the operation solo for nearly three years, he welcomed his niece as a partner in late 2023: a decision that brought new energy, new ideas, and ultimately, a new name; McBids Auctioneers & Appraisers Inc.

Enter Tam Kostenuk, our spark, our grit, our co-founder, and the woman who crosses every “T” and dots every “I”. Supporting office operations, administration, legal processes, and marketing, Tam is hands-on in every corner of our growing business. Alongside her husband, Kyle, she dives headfirst into projects and areas of business that most people would shy away from. Tam, the youngest daughter of Loren is every bit her father’s daughter. In work ethic, confidence, and command of the industry. As a little curly blonde kid running clerking sheets (and occasionally breaking things that arguably should have been sold!), she was unknowingly absorbing the ins and outs of the auction world. By high school, every after-school-waking-hour was spent on the warehouse floor; lotting, photographing, building customer relationships, working on web design, and forming lifelong friendships along the way. From graduation in 2015 to early 2023, she worked full-time at McDougall Auctioneers Ltd as a corporate administration manager before co-founding McBids in 2025 alongside her Uncle Terry. Today, she’s right back where she loves to be - working alongside the man who taught her to ride a bike, drive stick, and navigate everything she knows about business.

Rounding out our leadership team is Aaron Johnson, who jumped in with both feet and continues to demonstrate his belief in our vision time and time again. Aaron, along with his wife Carmen, has been a long-time family friend to the McDougall family and a seasoned contributor to auction sales and operations. After years spent running his own business in Northern Manitoba, raising a family and eventually working alongside the McDougall's in previous roles, Aaron returned to the world of auction with renewed passion and purpose. He brings a wealth of knowledge, an approachable personality, and an authentic love for the industry. Since becoming a partner, he has proudly introduced his adult children to the business, adding yet another layer to the family-centered values that fuel our company.
